By doing all these small things within the games you love, you learn about different programming constructs and different ways of programming because at the end of the day, code is code no matter what language or engine you may be using. Through starting off learning Java by making Minecraft plugins, I now own a Discord bot programmed in Java that serves over 14,000 guilds.īeing a teenager or a young person trying to get into programming, you don't want to write small meaningless programs that you'll go "oh cool" and never use again, that wouldn't interest me and I'm sure it wouldn't interest someone who has no idea about programming. I had no prior knowledge about ANYTHING with programming and it was due to the fact that I enjoyed what I'm doing that I continued to do so and get better and better. To add on to what Ben said and while it may not be Python it is very similar My journey into programming began by jumping head-first into programming add-ons for Minecraft in Java. If you keep at it, editing the Toontown source to add new stuff as a noob isn't rocket science. Just because you may not think this game can teach people to code, doesn't mean it isn't possible. Thanks to Toontown helping me learn Python, I was able to pick up C# very easily when it became necessary for me to do so. Never trust the client! Looking at Toontown code taught me that. I wouldn't know what any of these basic programming fundamentals are. If you want to play ones with a few more changes you could play the other servers, Project Altis, and Operation: Dessert Storm, I dont have their links though. If it wasn't for Toontown, I wouldn't know what a class is. If you would want one like the old one with a few improvements you should play Toontown Rewritten. I find it ridiculous that you claim that just because Toontown is a unique programming environment, any skills you pick up from working on it won't translate. There is very little incentive in creating scripts that describe how many apples and oranges Johnny has. There is much more incentive for learning when you know the result of your actions will be a new cutscene, or a change in environment in your beloved game. I think the answer is pretty obvious- it was for me.
